Train like top athlete

Kühtai and the area around Innsbruck provide an ideal training base. This is where world champions come to add the final touches before going out to compete.

Kate Allen, triathlon winner at the 2004 Athens Olympics:“I find everything I need here to practice my sport. Roads virtually free of traffic for my cycle training and beautiful running routes in the midst of nature.“

The High-altitude Performance Center Kühtai / Innsbruck also gave final touches to German athletes before the European Championships ’06 in Göteborg. “We take full advantage of the altitude yet minimize the risks doing our training in the valley,” explains Edgar Eisenkolb, head trainer of Germany’s 400-meter runners who treaded this new path for the first time with his training. They worked out in intensive units in Innsbruck and regenerated up at Kühtai at 2,020 meters altitude. Eisenkolb: “The advantage of Kühtai is its location at 2,020 meters. The training locations in Innsbruck at 580 meters altitude can be reached in just 35 minutes.”

Besides sprinting stars, the renowned marathon runner Susanne Hahn from Germany and Belgian top light athlete Roger König, as well as other Austrian and German athletes, also value the running possibilities of the Olympic base in Kühtai with its new Finnenbahn and the running route all around the reservoir for specific, goal oriented competition preparation.

But that’s not all: ambitious leisure athletes and hobby sports enthusiasts can also take advantage of the “Live high – train low” method. Through the innovative training strategy, a comprehensive supervision on-site by two experienced sports doctors and a trainer, medical examinations and tests and individual diet plans, harmonized to each particular type of sport, it is possible to raise your endurance performance by 3 – 5 % in just 14 days.
